There are experienced based therapies that bridge the gap between these questions. My approach is to form non judgemental relationships with the teen, while fostering a positive relationships with the family.

Groups:

One therapeutic method for helping teens and their families is through group counesling. The following groups are provided:

 

Parenting Support Groups :  It helps to realize you are not alone. In this group parents will discover ways to help communication with their teen, how to develop a safe, secure and nurturning environment, and learn how to have fun with your teen again.  Do you desire to increase respect in your home?

Teen Girls Group : Do you want to control your emotions instead of having your emotions control you?  Ever feel overwhelmed or even out of control? Learn skills that help you feel in control of your emotions. Discover tools that help regulate emotions, increase problem solving and decision making. Develop great communication skills to effecively talk with family, teachers and peers.

Sense of Self Group : Discover what makes you uniquely you, who you were chosen to be. Come into your own skin and learn how to effectivelly show your brilliant colors all while maintaining healthy relationships, gain control over self defeating behaviors and discover how to be happy with yourself and the life you have.

Anti- Anxiety Group : Palms sweat, choose to stay home rather than go out with friends? Maybe you think it's just easier to be alone, it's not as much work.  There are ways I can help you gain understanding of your fears, worries and behaviors. Learn ways to change your thinking, which changes your stress, changing your thoughts which changes your interactions with others. Oh, and have fun too !

Friendship & Self- Esteem : Its just us girls, and we have lots of fun discovery to do. This group will help girls increase confidence, positive self-image,  become a role model for younger girls, while degreasing anxiety and increasing social skills.
