Teens use slang, words that they all know to describe their life, and communicate with each other. Slang has always been around, but it is ever changing. The slang words teens used in the 80’s, & 90’s are very different from millennial’s slang. It’s important for parents to know thier teenager’s slang. The following are slang words from 2019.
Avocado–Used to describe a person, who is socially construed as straight by those around him/her, but in actuality is gay.
Awks - Awkward
Bae–Short for “baby.” It’s used as a term of endearment for a significant other such as a girlfriend or boyfriend. As an acronym, it stands for “Before Anyone Else
BF/GF - Boyfriend or girlfriend
BFF - Best friends forever
Boots: This is a way to say “very” or “a lot.” It’s added after the verb or adjective.
Bruh–A casual nickname for “bro”
Bruh - Same as "bro"
Bye Felicia - A disrespectful way to dismiss someone who is unimportant
Cancel - A rejection of a person, place or thing

Cheddar - Money
Chillaxin - Chillin' and relaxing.
Crashy - Crazy and trashy
Creeper - Someone who is socially awkward or tends to have stalker tendencies
Curve - Romantic rejection
Dope - Cool or awesome
Emo - Emotional or a drama queen
Fam–Their closest friends
Fly - Boys tend to refer to girls they think are good looking as "fly"
FOMO–“Fear of missing out.”
Ghost–To ignore someone on purpose.
GOAT–Acronym for “Greatest of all time!”
Gucci - Good or cool
Hangry - Hungry and angry
Hater or h8er - Someone who hates everything, even their friends
Hundo P - 100 percent certain
It’s lit–Short for “It’s cool or awesome!”
I’m weak–Short for “That was funny!”
Lit - Amazing
Low-Key–A warning that what they’re saying isn’t something they want everyone to know
n00b - A person who doesn't want to learn
OMG - An abbreviation for "oh my gosh" or "oh my God!"
Requestion - Request and a question
Rides - Sneakers or shoes
Salty–To be bitter about something or someone
Savage: The cool way to say “cool.”
Ship - Short for 'relationship'
Sic - Something that is cool
Sip tea–To mind your own business
Skurt–To go away or leave
Snatched - Looks good
Squad - A group of girls that hang out together regularly
Straight Fire - Hot or trendy
Sus - Suspect, not to be trusted
TBH - To be honest
Thirsty - Trying to get attention
Throw Shade - Give someone a dirty look
Tight - In a close relationship
Tool - Refers to someone who is stupid or a geek, slang word for “ Hoe”
Tope - Tight and dope
V - very
Wanksta - A person trying to act tough, but who isn't really pulling it off
Woke: Highly aware of social issues.
Yeah Ight- Bet
YOLO - You only live once
Now that you know some of the slang, have fun with it with your teen. Even if you don’t seem “ Gucci” to your teen, I bet he/she will appreciate the effort.
